Whilst serving with the 128 Duke of Baden regiment, as an infantryman, August Müller, who was a tradesman, had the desire for a stimulating refreshment to combat the dust and heat whilst on the drill-ground. He came up with the idea of a refreshing candy, packed so that it would fit into any pocket. As a basic component he thought that a peppermint flavour would be the best to satisfy these needs. 1903: The company of A. Müller & Co. was founded in Strasbourg. They launch their first peppermint candy onto the market in this year. August Müller who married a French lady called his little fresh revolution therefore VIVIL . The quality of product and the company's philosophy of a "fresh variety" was established, and has been maintained to this day. August Müller always thought of distributing his new refreshing product to all parts of the world. He was immediately successful in Europe and in 1908 took his first step into the American continent's market. Soon the name VIVIL is known as a synonym for "fresh breath". 1920: Strasbourg has now become French so the company moves its factory to Offenburg which is situated at the foot of the Black Forest. August Müller's son Dr. Bruno Müller joins the company. He endeavours to see that everyone has the opportunity to buy VIVIL products and to this end, sees that there is no train station, sports event or any other event where it not possible to buy our popular candy.
1950: At the beginning of the 50's under the management of Mrs Elisabeth Müller and her sister Dr. Rebstein-Metzger, production was started again and sales of our products were excellent. During this time of the miracle of the German economy, a housing estate was built for our employees, it was called the Dr. Bruno Müller Estate. VIVIL proves extremely popular, and as was said at the time "in everyones mouth". When people looked for fast refreshment they would look for our vending machines. Since the 1970's the sympathetic VIVIL crocodile proclaims "be fresh to each other!". Although
Peppermint candies are still the speciality of VIVIL
, the family owned company has extended their range over the years
responding to consumers steadily changing habits. The growing product range is
extended by "antjes" the compressed candies with dextrose, the chewy candies
"VIVA SOFT" as well as a range of other fresh and fruity compressed candies.
The VIVIL activities have been enourmously
important for the creation of a new confectionery segment: the over average
growing market for sugar free confectionery. For more than 90 years the characteristic name on the shiny green rolls and sticks has been a symbol for freshness. From the beginning VIVIL products were produced with natural raw materials without artificial colour - a principal the company keeps to until today. Nowadays VIVIL is known by 9 out of 10 Germans as the popular refresher no. 1. All in all today's positioning of VIVIL is marked by: its popularity, great consumer response and wide distribution justifying the slogan: VIVIL - Get the Power! Our aim is not only to "be fresh to each other" but to satisfy the needs of those who buy our excellent product. |
